INTAGLIO ETCHINGS - WATERCOLOR - PASTEL - PENCIL
Susan Hedstrand creates art in the Huckleberry Mountains of northeast Washington. Her intaglio etchings, watercolors, pastels, and pencils are recognized for their detailed realism.
Many years' experience in pencil developed a strong sense of tonality and proportion, which made etching a natural transition. Susan is dedicated to creating handmade etchings which are highly valued as original pieces of art. In order to assure the meticulous quality of each finished etching, Susan does her own printing and handcoloring.
Working also in watercolor, pastel, & pencil, she creates aesthetic pieces of art depicting our natural landscape and the animals that inhabit it. Her detailed and lifelike portraits - from the wild leopard to the treasured horse or dog - capture the personality and spirit of the animal.
Through extensive travel, Susan meticulously collects reference material for future pieces of art. Past research trips have included Yellowstone National Park, the Tetons, Glacier National Park, Mt. Rainier, Mesa Verde and Bandolier Indian ruins, the Olympic Mountains, and Florida's ecosystems.
Reflecting Susan's deep connection with the wilderness, her art is a constant reminder of our precious natural environment.
